Context
Logistimo Fleet uses auctions as a mechanism to procure delivery partners’ time at a reasonable price that is acceptable to both parties
Goal
- Build an auctions engine to facilitate spot-hire rural delivery partners who were mostly first-time users of smartphones and new to bidding process
Action
- Carried out quantitative and ethnographic study of current and potential delivery partners to understand smartphone availability/familiarity, work opportunities, work timings, routes frequented, price charged, monthly earnings, expenses, vehicle ownership, education levels, and what was most important to them in a job
- Created wireframes and prototype. Tested prototype with delivery partners that were representative of the target users. Incorporated feedback
- Key insight was that emojis and colours were universally understood
- Completed the final design, the PRD and participated in sprints to deliver the feature
Outcomes
- 40% of transporters via aucitons
- Users across educational backgrounds and smartphone familiarity were able to participate actively in the auctions
- Auctions for certain routes were deployed and helped identify interesting bidding patterns along with reducing cost for the organisation by 15%
